Drunken Chicken!! Here we come!

1 Sep

What happens every time happened yet again! We were doing our usual grocery shopping at the neighborhood superstore housed in Inorbit mall, Vashi. By the time we were done with the shopping for the week to come, we were oh-so-tired that neither of us was looking forward to going back home and trying to figure what to have for dinner. And it happened. Our brains started sending us tweets- ‘Retro night at Kiva’; ‘Makhmali Kabab and Corona’; ‘Cheese stuffed mushrooms’ and finally, DRUNKEN CHICKEN!

Kiva Lounge Vashi is completely unlike its cousin in Bhosale Nagar, Pune (Thank god!). Navi Mumbai unlike big brother Bombay does not have a lot of good food and entertainment options. Kiva is one of the few good restaurants where you can have great food, drink and good music – guaranteed. A spacious restaurant, a well stocked bar, a limited but good menu (Indian and Oriental) and pretty decent music.

The best days to visit are Friday and Saturday evening. A chilled beer or a tall drink, sumptuous appetizers and the DJ playing Clapton, UB40, Beatles, Abba… you get the drift… Beautiful! Thursdays are bollywood nights which I dont personally fancy, but if you are open to singing along some satte pe satta, disco dancer, nagin, amar akbar anthony kind of songs then this is the place for you.

My personal food favorites at this pub-lounge-restaurant hangout: DRUNKEN CHICKEN (trust me, even you wont be able to get over it!), pan fried prawns, cheese stuffed mushrooms, paneer kalimiri, bulgogi chicken. Their Indian main course has a bowl of curry, rice or two baby rotis and salad. It might seem insufficient when you read it on the menu but after a couple of rounds of their amazing appetizers and drinks, that main course is more than enough! The oriental cuisine is quite tasty and filling. Must try- Malaysian flat noodles, Satay chicken and noodles, Sweet and Sour chicken/prawn/veggies, pan fried noodles. They dont have a lot of choice in soups, salads and desserts, though the chicken soup is the kind that moms make at home – comforting and wholesome.

Kiva is a great place to catch up with buddies with whom you can sing all your favorite songs and get drunk. There are times when they actually manage to recreate the charm and atmosphere of thousand oaks, M G Road, Pune. If you are looking for an intimate dinner/lunch, then you will have to go here on a weekday.

A dinner for two will cost you Rs. 1500 to 2000 (depending on the drinks).

Psst… They also have some special recipes off the menu- ask their chef to make you some beer batter prawns/chicken, potatoes and veggies in sour cream, thai stir fry veggies and chicken malai kebabs. Happy eating!
