God’s Own Foodie Joint.. Delicious Lip-Smacking Kerala Cuisine

2 Dec

Just one name- SUNNY. Yes, I am sure they could have done with a better name, but it really does not matter when they have excellent food right? This is a very difficult to find, tucked in a laid back (read shady) corner of Chembur (yes, I do know a whole lot of great food places in this suburb of Mumbai), really small food joint. But, where the quality and taste and portion and price of their food is concerned- it is absolutely DIVINE!

The warm Jeera Water (Cumin seed water) that you are served, very Kerala!

A small, cramped mess- like restaurant with a eight table, fan cooled area and a small four table, air conditioned seating room; Sunny’s is the place where every Keralite or a fan of Kerala Food heads to when in Mumbai. You come here once, and you are hooked to this place. And, you will meet fans of Sunny’s food at the most unlikely places- I met one at a conference in Delhi, an American friend of mine met another fan at a music concert and of course- every true student of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS, Mumbai) and the Indian Institute of Population Studies (IIPS, Mumbai) would be in love with this place.

I know that this has begun to sound like I am getting paid to write this- but trust me (if you can 😉 ) the guys at Sunny’s do not even know of the existence of my blog (thanks- that did wonders for me!) and could not care less I guess. Coz they know where their priorities lie- treating every customer to their house specialties, making them feel very much at home, serving them with respect and love and ensuring that they come again and again ….

The must haves at SUNNY’s- FISH MOLLY, FISH MOLLY AND FISH MOLLY. 😀 and yes, you also must have the chicken sukka, prawns masala made kerala style (in fact all sea food), their appams, idiappams and the kerala parota (which is a kind of a paratha or a naan), the delicious biryani kerala style of course, the mushroom masala or the mix vegetables masala and the beef fry. Call me biased if you want to, but even a mundane sweet corn chicken soup served here is LOADED with chicken and egg so much so that it becomes a dish by itself! Polish off the meal (if you have even one square centimetre of space left in your tummy) with a wholesome payasam. I wish there were more desserts on the menu, but to be honest, just the main course at this restaurant makes me want to have another meal even when I am full, so I really am never left with space to even think of dessert!

One food place which gives you the instant karma connection that you will always be craving for more and more. Folks living in Chembur- I am just soo jealous of you, this restaurant delivers at home but only in Chembur. (sob sob sniff sniff)

Here’s the address, you just have to visit this place the next time you are even headed in the direction of Chembur.

Sunny, Shop No. 43, Shell Colony Road, Chembur (W), Mumbai

P.S. my apologies for not having posted here recently, but I have been busy writing at HealthyFeasts!
